Another pedestrian fatality marks the 46th traffic-related death in Las Vegas in 2024. In this case, the 35-year-old male crossed Pecos Road outside the crosswalk around 8:40 pm on Sunday, March 31st. The driver of the 2009 Nissan Versa was driving under the influence of alcohol and hit the pedestrian with his vehicle. The victim was pronounced dead on the scene. The driver was booked into the Clark County Detention Center for DUI-related charges.
Authorities say the combination of pedestrians not using crosswalks and distracted or impaired driving are causing the spike in traffic-related accidents. In fact, between January and March of 2023, there were 16 traffic-related fatalities in Las Vegas. That number has doubled in 2024, with 32 deaths between January and March.
Our hearts are with the families of every victim of traffic-related fatalities in Las Vegas. These tragedies have a ripple effect, and we acknowledge the heartbreak and lasting loss that the loved ones of these accidents experience. We wish them peace and justice as they heal.
